Phoebe in the Bible is known as a leader, a woman of status. She is financially independent, serves her community, and is radiant. A fortress is a place un-susceptible to outside influence or disturbance --- a safe haven for those who inhabit it. This is what Phoebe's Fortress seeks to obtain for the community it serves. The American Psychological Association states that "Healthy marriages are good for couples' mental and physical health. They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational, and social problems. It is important for us to get marriage right so that we can produce healthy families. If the parents are emotionally-healthy, more than likely the children will be healthy and we can reduce many of life's stressors. Phoebe's Fortress is dedicated to saving marriages before it starts. We embrace the journey of equipping families with evidence-based skills in order to sustain the family unit. Offering premarital education workshops, yearly marriage conferences, and other resources to promote healthy marriages. In addition, Phoebe has developed a program On Her Own to help provide life skills to foster girls who are about to exit the foster care system. In addition, Phoebe's Fortress has developed a program, On Her Own Foster Care Enrichment Program, to help provide life skills to foster teens. On HER Own will assist young ladies who are transitioning out of the foster care system with the appropriate skills to reduce homelessness, incarceration, and unwanted pregnancies. It seeks to increase independent living skills, financial literacy, educational awareness, and interpersonal relationships, in order to become well-rounded adults. This program operates in six-week increments and provide life skills in addition to outings to promote their socioemotional development.
